Commute time finder

Driving distance, off-peak and peak ranges, and the route locals actually take — for every town in the corridor and every destination that matters.

Commute tolerance decides where most families in this corridor end up living.

The single largest mistake buyers make is comparing towns by mileage. Waxhaw to uptown Charlotte is 27 miles; Indian Trail to uptown is 18. In a heavy weekday peak the two arrive within minutes of each other, because Providence Road and US-74 behave very differently under load. Route matters more than distance here.

How To Read These

Three things the numbers hide.

  • Peak direction matters. Inbound to Charlotte between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m. is the constraint; the same trip at 10 a.m. often runs at the off-peak figure exactly.
  • US-74 is signalized for much of its Union County length, which is why Indian Trail and Monroe commutes swing more day to day than Waxhaw's arterial route. The Monroe Expressway toll road removes most of that variance.
  • Providence Road narrows as it approaches Charlotte, so the last five miles frequently take as long as the first fifteen. Buyers testing a commute should drive it at the hour they would actually leave.

Questions

Commute questions, answered.
