School Districts
Assignment is the most consequential thing a corridor buyer researches, and the district — not the town — is where it is decided.
Sixteen towns in this corridor are divided among four public school districts — two in North Carolina, two in South Carolina. Each draws attendance areas at the parcel level, each redraws them under growth pressure, and each prices into the housing market differently. These pages set out how they actually work.
One caution before the detail: the district name is the least useful unit of comparison. A district average blends attendance areas whose demographics differ enormously, which is why the same district can produce both the state's strongest high school and a struggling one. Read the campus, then read the parcel.

Union County, North Carolina · NC
The district that explains most of southern Union County's housing market — roughly 40,000 students, a wide performance spread between clusters, and attendance lines that move with growth.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools covers Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville and Ballantyne. Fort Mill School District covers Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Lancaster County School District covers Indian Land.
The question does not resolve at the district level. Union County is more uniform but has a wide spread between its western and eastern clusters; Charlotte-Mecklenburg contains both very high and very low performing campuses under one name; Fort Mill posts among South Carolina's strongest results with constant boundary change; Lancaster County's Panhandle campuses outperform its countywide averages. Compare the two specific campuses your two candidate addresses feed.
Not on letter grades — the two states build their report cards differently. Compare graduation rate, growth measures and course access instead, and remember that the South Carolina districts come with a different property tax structure that changes the total cost of the decision.
